In steel or metal industries, electrical arc furnace is used in the melting or extraction of ferrous or non-ferrous metals that demand high temperature operation. One of the major components of electric arc furnace is graphite electrode. Graphite electrode is used to transmit electrical energy from the power source to the steel melt in the electrical arc furnace bath. In manufacturing of graphite electrode, petroleum coke, needle coke, and coal tar binder pitch is used. These carbonaceous materials are blended in the desired ratio and then extruded to form electrode. After this, heat treatment is provided to electrode so that all the volatile matter is removed. The pores formed during the heat treatment are impregnated by impregnation pitch or Zero QI pitch. Further, the electrode is graphitised in graphitisation furnace. Our state-of-the-art technology for continuous impregnation pitch plant is the first of its type in India to produce Zero QI pitch or impregnation pitch. We also supply binder grade pitch, which is used for this application.
